REVIEW OF LAST WEEK

We had runners in four races in the last update and two managed to win. Firstly SOMERSBY put in a superb round of jumping in the Henry VIII Novices Chase at Sandown to defeat Crack Away Jack. I was very impressed with the win and the fact it was achieved in a quicker time than the Tingle Creek later on the card, tells me it is serious form. The 20/1 has long gone, but 8/1 is still a fair enough price as I expect him to run a huge race in the Arkle.

JONCOL was our second winner and he really impressed me with his battling qualities at Punchestown. It was a hot race and to pull clear of In Compliance the way he did, shows how good he is. A step up in trip for the Lexus Chase is now on the cards and he has to have a decent chance in that. ARAN CONCERTO was running a decent race against him before fitness told and he eventually fell. It was a bad fall, so time will tell if he is able to run to form next time out, but if he can, there is a decent prize in him later in the season.

BENSALEM came out of the fog at Exeter on Friday to finish second to Take The Breeze. I thought he should have won that race, so was a bit disappointed in him. It could be that the below par stable form also affected him or that the winner is better than I thought – probably a bit of both!

COPPER BLEU ran at Warwick on Sunday and as thought 6/1 shot My Moment proved the biggest danger. He proved such a danger that he actually beat him. It looks as if Copper Bleu is not as good as I originally thought, but with good placing he should be able to win a race soon.

On Thursday VALENTINE VIC (5/2) made his debut over hurdles and beat off all the opposition with a bold front running performance and he should be able to defy a penalty to win again.

WEEKEND PREVIEW

Unfortunately none of the ten to follow are entered this weekend but there is one of the `on the up’ horses to look out for. INCHIDALY ROCK has several entries, including the 12.45 at Cheltenham and 2.00 at Lingfield on Saturday and the 2.10 at Hereford on Sunday but wherever he runs he should be followed as I rate him highly and he is not one that I would want to oppose.
