NH Horses To Follow – 31st Dec 09

Xtrends

We had horses involved in three races since the last update and we won all three. Firstly it was the Lexus where WHAT A FRIEND jumped and travelled well throughout and stayed on impressively to win at 11/2. It was a great effort and again shows just how good Denman is, as he gave 22 lbs and a beating to him last time out. Paul Nicholls is keen to skip the Gold Cup this year to keep him fresh for Aintree and Punchestown where the likely better ground will be in his favour.

At Newbury both QUANITATIVEEASING and BIG BUCK’S landed the odds. They both looked impressive and go to the Cheltenham Festival as serious contenders for their respective races. Big Buck’s will obviously be hard to beat in the World Hurdle and if he is to race beforehand, it will be in the Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham on January 30th.

WEEKEND PREVIEW
With so many runners over the last few days it is not surprising that it is a quiet weekend ahead. The only runner we have is at Cheltenham on Friday and PUNCHESTOWNS should win the Dipper Chase at 1.40. Although he only faces four opponents, it could be a lot closer than many believe as it looks a hot little race. Knockara Beau has really impressed this season and usually jumps very well, the ground and track suits, so will make the favourite work very hard. Seven Is My Number has also impressed this season and could not be faulted last time out, but just may be better over further. Bensalem receives weight from the principals and will have the soft ground he favours, so his chances can not be ignored. The trip is ideal and he has already shown form on the track, so should run very well. This race is tough, but I believe Punchestowns will come out on top and with Weird Al boosting Knockara Beau’s form at the last Cheltenham fixture, he is the one for the forecast.
