Golf – Sony Open – Free Preview
The PGA Tour remains in Hawaii this week for the Sony Open in Waialae. A number of top quality players make their seasonal debut in what looks to be a fascinating weeks golf.
It was great to be able to sit down and watch four rounds of high class golf once again and it has my excitment at a high for the coming season.
The players once again face a tough week with Waialae well known for its strong wind and rough terrain.
I’ll start with Zach Johnson. The defending champion is well known for his accuracy from tee too green (top 10 driving accuracy three years on the trot) and that will once again put him in a very strong position this week. He will have no problem with Waialae’s narrow fairways and small greens. His putting will not be a problem and lasts weeks outing will hopefully have the desired effect of straightening out any kinks from the christmas break.

Zach Johnson – Each-Way – 18/1 (General)
The second player that jumps out at me is Luke Donald. Despite a wrist injury that at one point looked to have ended his season Luke amassed just over $2 million including a 5th place finish in the British Open. He has posted four top 25 finishes in his last four starts here and has only missed two cuts in his last 21 starts. The good experiance at The Open should help him here with the high winds. He posted a respectable -6 here last year and I believe he can build on that.

Luke Donald – Each-Way – 50/1 (General)
I’m sure Rory Sabbatini will be at the forefront of most peoples thoughts anyway but I feel his trends are too strong to leave out. After his hugely impressive round on Sunday he will already be very confident, but he has also recorded two 2nd place finishes in his last four starts here and finished 12th last year. Rory will have no problem with the tight fairways and can hold his nerve with the putter as good as anyone else. Looking at the field against his form, he seems a great price.

Rory Sabbatini – Each-Way – 25/1 (Coral, VC)
The final player in my shortlist is set at a big price and although his trends may not be as strong as his rivals I feel he is set for a big week. Marc Leishman, a name not very well known on the tour, picked up $1.7m last year which included some very strong results and was voted rookie of the year. He is used to high winds, which could be attributed to him arriving from Australia, and has proven he has the game to combat whatever may come his way. He finished 12th here last year and I feel he is worthy of a second look.
