Football – Free European Preview

Xtrends

Our free European football preview returns this week and we look to pick you some winners from the big four leagues in France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

France

Goals are likely to be at a premium when Lens, 15th in the Ligue 1 table, host 18th placed Le Mans on Saturday evening in a relegation six-pointer. The two sides average less than a goal a game and have yet to win in 2010. To me the bookmakers have got their prices wrong and Lens look a great bet at 5/6 with Bet365 and Stan James. Lens do not concede many goals and against opponents who have lost all 10 league games away from home this season a narrow victory looks on the card. Backing Lens to win 1-0 could reap reward.

Bettrends Advice

Lens – 5/6 (Bet365, Stan James)

Lens – to win 1-0 – 11/2 (totesport)

Germany

There have been plenty of goals in the normally reserved Bundesliga of late and I’m taking a chance of three of the top five continuing their fine form with away victories on Saturday afternoon. Bayern Munich have dropped just two points from their last eight games and have really hit form, and the 3/4 on offer with totesport for them to win at out of sorts Wolfsburg looks a fair bet. Schalke are also in a rich vein of form and there is no reason why the 5/6 shots (Coral) will come unstuck at fourth from bottom Freiburg. I’m putting Bayern Munich and Schalke in a treble with Hamburg, who are 15/13 (expekt.com) to come away from Koln with three points. Koln have won their last two games away from home but they have struggled in front of their home fans this season and Hamburg, beaten just once on their travels, can emerge victorious.

Bettrends Advice

Bayern Munich/Schalke/Hamburg – treble – approximately 5.8/1

Italy

Palermo have proved something of a surprise package in Serie A this season and there is no reason why their unbeaten record should go on Saturday afternoon when they host Parma. Seven wins and four draws on home turf is no mean record with the last three fixtures being victories to nil. The general 4/5 shots look a good bet to continue their winning home run against a Parma side who have failed to score in their last two outings and scored just twice in the last five games.

Bettrends Advice

Palermo – 4/5 (general)

Palermo – to win 1-0 – 6/1 (bwin)

Palermo – to win 2-0 – 7/1 (general)

Spain

The top-three in the La Liga table – Barcelona, Real Madrid and Valencia – all play at home on Saturday evening and are long odds-on shots. Therefore, we will look at the Sunday afternoon action in Spain and two teams catch the eye. Mallorca, fifth in the table, host Villarreal and look a decent proposition at 11/8 with Betfred. Following a defeat and a draw away from home in their last two league games, Mallorca will relish being back no home soil and will be looking for a 10th straight home victory having scored 24 goals and conceded just three on their own patch this season. They represent good value against a side who have picked up just five points on their travels. The other team worthy of support look to be Osasuna, who are general 4/5 shots to beat Tenerife. Away from the Canary Islands, Tenerife have been woeful this season with just two draws and seven defeats to show for their efforts. Osasuna are anything but prolific in front of goal, but their tight defence should ensure a narrow victory.

Bettrends Advice

Mallorca/Osasuna – double – approximately 3.25/1
