Golf – AT&T at Pebble Beach Preview
We enjoyed some more success last week at the Northern Trust Open where I tipped up J.B Holmes at 110/1 and he finished 3rd to pay us back at a healthy 27.5/1. Hopefully we can carry on this week at the ultra competitive AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am.
The first player to enter the equation is Dustin Johnson, who simply cannot be ignored as he attempts to repeat his success from this event last year. Dustin won here comfortably by four shots and that victory followed a T7th place finish in 2008, he obviously enjoys playing this course and feels no distractions from playing in the Pro-Am format. Not only does he come here with great course form he has also started very strongly this year. A blip when missing the cut at the Farmers comes in the middle of 16th place finishes in his first two starts of the year and despite a very disappointing third round Dustin still managed to finish T3rd last week at -13. He had a very similar start to last year before coming here so confidence must be high. He stands out as the value from the top five in the betting.

Dustin Johnson – Each-Way – 20/1 (General)
Brandt Snedeker seems to have gone under the radar of most people this year but he started the season very strongly. He finished T10th in the Bob Hope Classic, which has a similar feel to Pebble Beach, T2nd at the Farmers and T20th last week at the Northern Trust Open. Admittedly, his course form isn’t superb of late with him missing the cut last year and some uninspiring finishes the two years before that. However, he has never started a year as strong as this and his confidence must be at an all time high. He sits 7th in putting, 12th in driving accuracy and 13th in scoring average in 2010 so the stats would suggest a win is not too far away.

Matt Kuchar has been playing some great golf of late and I think he deserves to pick up a win this week. Matt started the year with a 3rd place finish at the SBS, a T2nd at the Bob Hope Classic and T20th last week at the Northern Trust. He is enjoying a great start to the year and his all round game has improved immensely. He sits first on tour for both total birdies (so scoring wont be a problem) and final round scoring average (so he knows how to play on a Sunday). In his last three starts here he has recorded two top 15 place finishes so he knows what it takes round this tough course. He is worth another chance to pick up his first win of the year.

Matt Kuchar – Each-Way – 25/1 (General)
My final pick is a bit of a specialist here. Davis Love III has a great record here with two wins and his last 5 starts here resulting in T22nd, T24th, T4th, T33rd, and T9th finishes. Davis Love has the type of game which suits course like Pebble Beach with its seaside layout meaning it has endless nooks and crannies. He has always played well on similar courses like the Verizon Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links and the he seems to relish the difficult conditions. Despite a missed cut last week at the Northern Trust he started the year strongly at the Sony Open when opening this year’s account with a T5th place finish. He is always worth a chance at Pebble Beach.
