There is a great fixture at Newbury tomorrow with several fascinating runners.
The one that really catchers my eye is ALFIE SHERRIN in the 2.00 as he is potentially very well handicapped off a mark of just 132. He has the potential to be one of the stable stars at Paul Nicholls over the next couple of years and probably won’t run off as low a mark again. First time out he needed the run at Chepstow, but still ran well and the form has been boosted since. He should be spot on for this and the distance and ground should suit.
At 4.45 AL FEROF makes his British debut in the bumper. He was very impressive last time out in Ireland and subsequently was sold to join Paul Nicholls. He looks a very good horse and can take this on his way to better things.
If the ground is soft at Newbury look out for NUMIDE in the totesport Trophy at 3.05pm as his record on soft ground over hurdles is excellent. He is well handicapped and connections are confident that he is back in form and it is worth remembering that on soft ground he beat Group One winner Gentlewave on the flat who went on to finish second to Dylan Thomas in the 2006 Irish Derby.
On Sunday NAJAF makes his British debut and comes into the race in seriously good form. Last time he finished third in France, finishing just behind the very useful Jumbo Rio and Rock Noir. He may not be much of a price at Exeter (3pm) but he is worth watching and following for the future.
In Ireland OSANA runs in the 4.55 at Navan and is strongly fancied to win. He has taken well to fences and a strong run will see him on track for the Arkle, for which current odds of 16/1 look very generous.
