Football – European Weekend Preview
Hopefully you were on the European winners selected last week, and we will attempt to continue the run with more winners in France, Germany, Italy and Spain this weekend.
France
Monaco host Marseille in Saturday’s most eye-catching game in France’s Ligue 1 and, as the table would suggest with just goal difference separating them, it looks an intriguing affair. Fifth-place Marseille, who sit a place above their hosts, are marginal favourites at 6/4 following a 5-0 home victory last weekend, but it is totesport’s 21/10 about a Monaco victory that takes my eye. Monaco have lost just one in their last eight games and have comfortably won their last three home games. On the other hand, Marseille have struggled on their travels of late and look worth taking on.
Another French League game that I recommended taking an interest in is Montpellier’s home clash with struggling Grenoble on Saturday. It is second place taking on the bottom club and the 6/11 odds for a home win are pretty prohibitive. Montpellier aren’t the most prolific but they should be good enough to beat Grenoble by more than one goal so take expekt.com’s 21/19 for Montpellier -1 in the Asian Handicap.

Monaco – 21/10 (totesport)
Montpellier -1 on the Asian Handicap – 20/19 (expekt.com)
Germany
In the first of the Bundesliga games of the weekend on Friday evening, Monchengladbach look overprice at evens for their home game with Nurnberg. Both sit in the bottom six, but if Monchengladbach’s recent goalscoring form on their own patch (10 goals in the last three games) is anything to go by their will be plenty of attacking play from the home side. They should have too much for Nurnberg, second from bottom having scored just 17 goals all season and who have won once in their last eight games.
On Saturday afternoon, Werder Bremen are 5/6 favourite (Coral and Sky Bet) to come away from their visit to Hannover with three points. Hannover have tumbled into the relegation zone after six successive defeats and have picked up just two points since November. Werder Bremen have lost their last three away but have scored plenty of goals and should have too much firepower. Put them in a double with fellow 5/6 (totesport and Coral) chance Eintracht Frankfurt, who look a good price to overcome Freiburg at home on Sunday. Freiburg are hovering a place above the drop zone after failing to win since the end of November and Eintracht Frankfurt’s consistent home form should see them bag the points.
Bettrends Advice
Monchengladbach – evens (general)
Werder Bremen and Eintracht Frankfurt – double – approximately 2.36/1
Italy
Serie A table toppers Inter Milan face a tough task in going to Napoli this weekend and the bookmakers are finding it a tough one to solve – Inter are 11/8 favourites while both Napoli and the draw are best-priced 9/4 (Betfred). It is the draw that catches my eye most – particularly a 0-0 which is available at 9/1 – and should be backed. Napoli are unbeaten at home although five of their 11 games have been draws, while Inter have drawn three of their last four away games.
Bettrends Advice
Napoli-Inter Milan – draw – 9/4 (Betfred)
Napoli-Inter Milan – 0-0 correct score – 9/1 (general)
Spain
Despite the fact that we have the rarity of Barcelona on offer at the generous price of 3/4 this weekend for their trip to Atletico Madrid, Getafe are the best value for me in the La Liga this weekend. They host Almeira on Sunday afternoon and the 4/5 on offer with Stan James and Coral should be snapped up with rival firms going 4/6 about a home win. Getafe have suffered just one defeat at home since September and with Almeira winless on their travels since October it seems a home win looks the most likely outcome.
Bettrends Advice
Getafe – 4/5 (Stan James, Coral)
