Eyecatchers – 26th Feb 10
There are a few eyecatching entries this week and the first two both run in the big race – the Racing Post Chase, 3.05 at Kempton.
FISTRAL BEACH started the season very attractively handicapped but with a frustrating habit of finishing second, but after another two runner-up spots he eventually came good at Kempton last month, over two and a half miles. With that confidence booster behind him I expect him to come out on top and reward Ruby Walsh who is aiming to get down to ten stone to ride, which shows how much he likes him! Last time out he got the better of a great battle with Heathcote and it was great to see him win as it showed that the reason for all those seconds is not that he ducks a battle. The third was twenty nine lengths back that day and given a little improvement (that was only his third start over fences) he should run a huge race as a handicap mark of 132 does not look harsh. The main danger and other eyecatcher is RAZOR ROYALE who has impressed me this season. He has got his act together now and has started to jump well. He stays, will handle the ground and comes from a yard that are doing well presently. The trip should be ideal and a rating of 141 looks fair to me and again with few chase starts under his belt, he is open to improvement, so 20/1 looks a very good each-way price.
Paul Nicholls could be in for a good day at Kempton as I seriously fancy the chances of THE NIGHTINGALE. A useful hurdler, he really impressed me on his chase debut and I believe this track and trip will really suit him. He may not be a great price, but I expect him to win well.
In the next few days I will write my Ante-Post feature for the Cheltenham Festival, so please look out for it.
