Football – European Weekend Preview
Some decent priced winners across Europe for us last week with successful tips coming in at 19/10, 10/3, and 2.8/1 and hopefully we can continue the good form with some more winners this weekend.
France
Montpellier may have let us down last week when slipping to a 1-0 defeat away at St Etienne, but priced at 7/5 to beat Rennes at home on Saturday evening there seems little reason to ditch them just yet. Montpellier may struggle for goals, but they are second in the table with nine wins and just two defeats at home from 12 games in Ligue 1. Montpellier’s last three home games have earned maximum points without conceding a goal and with Rennes having failed to score in their last four on the road – three of which ended in defeat – the 7/5 on offer with William Hill looks too good to miss to me.
I also like a Ligue 1 double this weekend of Nancy and Bordeaux, which should pay around 2.2/1. Nancy are 3/4 (William Hill) to overcome bottom of the table Grenoble in their Saturday evening clash and that looks overpriced to me. Nancy’s home form may not be the greatest with six defeats already on their own patch, but they should have too much for Grenoble, who have picked up just two points on their travels all season. Couple them in a double with league leaders Bordeaux, who are a 5/6 chance (Bet365 and Stan James) to come away from Le Mans with a win on Sunday. A victory last weekend ended a seven-game losing run for Le Mans but they remain in the relegation zone and should find Bordeaux, beaten just one since the end of November, too hot to handle.
Bettrends Advice
Montpellier – 7/5 (William Hill)
Nancy-Bordeaux double – approximately 2.2/1
Germany
The first of this weekend’s Bundesliga games that catch my eye is Borussia Monchengladbach’s home game with Freiberg on Saturday afternoon. Freiberg have failed to win any of their last nine games, picking up just three points along the way. Their away form has dipped since a great start to the season and Monchengladbach look value at 4/5 to continue a run which has seen them win four of their last five at home.
Wolfsburg, impressive winners over Villarreal in the Europa League on Thursday, are available at the stand out odds of evens with Coral to inflict a 10th straight defeat on third from bottom Hannover. The miserable run of results has seen Hannover slump into the relegation zone and with Wolfsburg getting back to winning ways last weekend to end a dismal run of their own they look worth supporting.
Bettrends Advice
Borussia Monchengladbach – 4/5 (General)
Wolfsburg – evens (Coral)

Some tricky puzzles to solve in Serie A this week so I’m going for a double with victories on Sunday afternoon for AC Milan and Genoa combining to pay approximately 5/4. Milan are hot 4/11 (Stan James and William Hill) favourites to see off Atalanta at home and on the back of two impressive away wins this week it is easy to see why they are so short. Add them together with Genoa, who are 4/6 (General) to overcome Bologna at home, in a double. Genoa have the fourth best record at home in Serie A with their only defeat coming against champions Inter Milan back in mid-October and four wins in a row on home soil.
Bettrends Advice
AC Milan-Genoa double – approximately 5/4
Spain
Malaga are 20/1 shots to beat Barcelona at the Nou Camp on Saturday night but for me they are an attractive proposition on the handicap with a two goal start. They were beaten 2-0 when Barcelona visited at the start of the season but Malaga’s form has improved dramatically since then and they have been beaten just once in the last 14 La Liga games – that coming at Real Madrid. A victory over Barcelona may well look unlikely but a narrow defeat is not out of the question and backing Malaga plus two goals at 13/8 with Ladbrokes could prove worthwhile.
Earlier on Saturday evening Real Madrid travel to Tenerife and are 1/3 shots to come away with victory. The odds are too slim to be taking but a bet the interests me is backing a victory for Real with a half-time draw. Tenerife’s home form may not look good on paper but they have a stubbornness to them and Real have struggled to take the initiative before the half-time in their recent away games. The draw/Real Madrid result in the half-time/full-time market is available at 7/2 generally.
Bettrends Advice
Malaga +2 – 13/8 (Ladbrokes)
Draw-Real Madrid – 7/2 (General)
