Welcome to Day 1 of bettrends LIVE! at the 2010 Cheltenham Festival.

Today’s Live report, from Paul Jones and the bettrends team, is below.

Make sure to check back tomorrow for the LIVE! report from Day 2.

  • 4:50 PM: Paul Jones Signing off for today. Hope you will join me from 10 a m tomorrow
  • 4:48 PM: Paul Jones Overall not a good day for ante post but our strength is the middle two days there, below what I wanted on th trends but a very good day for this paddock service
  • 4:46 PM: Paul Jones Chinese or Indian?
  • 4:30 PM: Paul Jones Quevega very fit indeed
  • 4:28 PM: Paul Jones Have fallen in love with Sway. Only a 4yo though
  • 4:27 PM: Paul Jones Lovely head on voler la vedette, two handlers though
  • 4:25 PM: Paul Jones Of the big two, on this ground I am swaying more to voler ka vedette who is more speed based but only marginally
  • 4:23 PM: Paul Jones Trends not gone great today but paddock reports could not gone much better and have to say I am really taken with the wellneing of Sway. she is in the “could be anything” category
  • 4:09 PM: Paul Jones That’s it I sm sticking to paddock reports and not trends now!!!!! Sizing Australia murdered on the bend
  • 3:59 PM: Paul Jones Have to conclude c halo, punjabi, medermit and zaynar went to quick to top of hill so zaynar has run a blinder
  • 3:57 PM: Paul Jones Carberry reported Go Native to be never travelling after mistake at second flight…..Punjabi was more disappointing for me
  • 3:49 PM: Paul Jones Hey up, the Bolger mob have all turned up together. Freneys well arguably looked best
  • 3:45 PM: Paul Jones I know he is on a losing run of about 60 but A New Story looks fantastic. Definitely interested in a place only bet especially as placed in this race last two years
  • 3:42 PM: Paul Jones Was worried de bromhead may be out of form but Arkle proved otherwise. Ante post followers will know I am keen on sizing Australia ew. Have to say with four places 6-1 is a tempting ew price now stable are okay as so few have any hope
  • 3:39 PM: Paul Jones Just spoke to victor chandler. Zaynar goes for World Hurdle next year
  • 3:38 PM: Paul Jones Nicholls just said Celestial Halo would be ideal for the Arkle nex year
  • 3:33 PM: Paul Jones Given class horses are winning on this ground and it is quicker on the cross country chase you never know it may be L’Ami’s day
  • 3:30 PM: Paul Jones I think Binocular gets up the hill
  • 3:27 PM: Paul Jones The boy came good on better ground. Classis what we need on this ground and did he look the business beforehand. I also refer you to the Sandown preview evening report if you subscribed to that. Check out the trainer comment
  • 3:21 PM: Paul Jones How much has ruby pinched?
  • 3:18 PM: Paul Jones Who is going to lead and what pace will they go as that will be crucial?
  • 3:10 PM: Paul Jones Punjabi also looks ready to run for his life
  • 3:10 PM: Paul Jones Blood vessels on binocular really showing. Bursting…..in a good way. On this ground his class could easily shine through
  • 3:07 PM: Paul Jones Celestial Halo shining
  • 3:07 PM: Paul Jones Bell ringing for jockeys up and half not been in paddock. Farce
  • 3:01 PM: Paul Jones Had a third good word for Anothertinakelly in the four miler tomorrow and it’s a massive price
  • 2:53 PM: Paul Jones Need to cheer myself up after that. There are some interesting sights if you look hard enough
  • 2:53 PM: Paul Jones
  • 2:48 PM: Paul Jones Having backed Bendalem and The Package it is fair to say I am somewhat dischuffed for the second year running in that race!
  • 2:30 PM: Paul Jones Bensalem on his toes
  • 2:28 PM: Paul Jones Theatrical Moment looks seriously well
  • 2:27 PM: Paul Jones Ogee is not as small as I thought. New Alco looks very fit for a horse off for 693 days.
  • 2:26 PM: Paul Jones For the second year running in the paddock in this race Comy Or Die looks like a film star. Outstanding but of course Aintree the aim
  • 2:23 PM: Paul Jones Don’t laugh but Ollie Magern looks well
  • 2:15 PM: Paul Jones Did lack of a recent run hurt Somersby I wonder? Ground probably too quick for Sports Line and Captain Cee Bee. The class came through on the ground. Could be the story of the day to come?
  • 2:03 PM: Paul Jones Looks like J P may be smashing into Captain Cee Bee….. only 9-4
  • 1:56 PM: Paul Jones Somersby did one lap. Disgusting
  • 1:56 PM: Paul Jones That said, the power Sports Line has on him is phenomenal. Not unlike Denman
  • 1:54 PM: Paul Jones Sports Line looks like lives in a field! Riverside Theatre not the biggest. Mad max sweating
  • 1:51 PM: Paul Jones What a bonny horse Kangaroo Court is. Maybe one for Aintree though
  • 1:42 PM: Paul Jones Did not think they went that quick so would not trust the time to give the going
  • 1:39 PM: Paul Jones Hobbs yard remain on fire. What else has he got? Wishfully Thinking is my top trend horse on the Coral Cup
  • 1:36 PM: Paul Jones Menorah did look very very fit. I fear Mr O Connell is going to get slated
  • 1:19 PM: Paul Jones Have to say Menorah looks trained to the minute. Do not think he will improve on what he does today if heading to Aintree. Get Me Out Of Here a most rangy individual
  • 1:16 PM: Paul Jones Dunguib last in but now in. What a beast
  • 1:13 PM: Paul Jones The Mullins pair look smaller than I imagined. Oscar whisky looks magnificent…. You never know Dunguib may make an appearance at some point
  • 1:06 PM: Paul Jones Looking forward to seeing Dunguib in the paddock. Hopefully he will walk round more than once unlike last year. Not banking on it though
  • 1:03 PM: Paul Jones Men on stilts. Excellent. I knew there was a reason I went racing
  • 12:49 PM: Paul Jones Although Walsh on The Tother One Nicholls says in paddock interview he prefers Kicks For Free but only an outside chance. I will be disappointed if one of the four novices does not win
  • 12:40 PM: Paul Jones I see New Alco now has G Lee up rather than the 10lbs conditional that was previously jocked up. I wonder if Ferdy is trying to pull a fast one?
  • 12:23 PM: Paul Jones Just finished the Overnight trends copy for tomorrow so now we can play…..
  • 11:05 AM: Paul Jones Just been announced they will be playing the Cheltenham song at 1.15 every day. Thanks for the warning.
  • 11:04 AM: Paul Jones Decs are through for weds. No shocks. Bit surprised Silk Affair goes for the Coral Cup as backed him for the Pertemps. Nr no bet thank goodness
  • 10:17 AM: Paul Jones In case you were unaware they have moved the last hurdle neater the winning line so less chance of whip bans so you do not want to make a mistake. They are saying 70 yards nearer but I have just counted it out at 95
  • 10:12 AM: Paul Jones Looking at that photo I bet you never knew I was an extra in Miami Vice
  • 10:11 AM: Paul Jones Also walked some of cross country course. That was a laugh. Definitely faster ground than The Old Course so will be against the real stamina horses
  • 10:09 AM: Paul Jones Just walked most of the course. Deadish ground but quicker in home straight
  • 9:47 AM: Paul Jones Already pretty warm so can only think the ground will start drying up. Not great for Solwhit and Zaynar fans but good for Go Native and Starluck in particular
  • 9:10 AM: Paul Jones The other notable comment was by Paul Nolan was felt Noble Prince was 10lbs well in for the County Hurdle which is saying something given Irish trainers usually whinge at their treatment over here.
  • 9:08 AM: Paul Jones News from a preview night in Prestbury last night was that Thornton was all over Tarotino in the Plate providing it stays dry
  • 9:06 AM: Paul Jones Wow what a glorious morning in the Cotswolds for day 1 – full English downed in sunny winchcombe and shortly to enter the course
