Newbury 2.20

SOCIETY ROCK was a most impressive winner at Ascot on his last start and James Fanshawe looks to have a very progressive young sprinter on his hands. Connections have elected to come here and carry a penalty rather then head to York earlier in the week for the Duke Of York Stakes to take on his elders and that decision can reap the rewards. Having won his maiden at Nottingham in August last year he followed that up by pocketing a massive prize in the Tattersalls Timeform Millions Sprint at Newmarket. He returned to HQ for his final juvenile start and ran another cracker, finishing 7th in another valuable sales race having been drawn on the wrong side – he actually finished 2nd in his group, beaten by only Group 1 winner Alfred Noble. Those performances suggested he was something decent and his ‘come from behind’ win at Ascot last month did nothing to dispel those thoughts. He looks a sprinter on the up and looks to have plenty going for him here.
