We got off to a flyer in this year’s FedExCup play-offs by sticking by Matt Kuchar in The Barclays and the American justified our belief as we were paid back at 40/1. We move onto the Deutsche Bank Championship at TPC Boston.

This week looks ultra-tight. There are so many great players in the field and just by looking at the markets; you can tell it is anyone’s to win. Followers of my updates have probably realised I’m not one for short odds, but I’m afraid a player that is set at 12/1 just has to feature. Steve Stricker is the player in question and he cannot be left out, he just fits the profile for this week perfectly. Steve is in great form of late, he finished 18th at the PGA, 9th at the WGC, won the John Deere and carried his great form on with a 3rd last week at The Barclays. He sits 3rd in all round stats, 6th in birdie average, 4th for putting average and 3rd for scoring average. Steve is the defending champion but also finished 7th in 2006, 9th in 2007 and 13th in 2008, he may not seem great value but it would be madness to leave him out.

Steve Stricker – Each-Way – 12/1 (General)

Jim Furyk made somewhat of a gaffe last week. If you weren’t aware, the reason he did not feature at The Barclays is because he was disqualified. He missed his tee off time for the pro-am that took place and due to PGA rules he was not allowed to take part in the main event. I’m sure Jim will still be pretty angry with himself but that is only going to spur him on this week. More importantly, he comes here in good form. Although a disappointing last round, he finished 24th at the PGA, 6th at the WGC and 9th at the Greenbrier. He also has a good record in this event, he finished 7th in 2008 and 8th last year which importantly included stats such as 4th in both greens hit and birdies (both vital for this event). His current stats also stand out, he is 7th for scoring average, 6th for GIR from 100-125, 19th for GIR from 175-200 and 11th from less than 125 yards. After last week’s mishap, he will be looking to bounce straight back this week.

Jim Furyk – Each-Way – 28/1 (Bet365, Coral)

The third player I like the look of is Jason Day. The Australian comes here in good form and should be confident another good result is well within reach. He finished 5th at The Barclays, 10th at the PGA and 22nd for the WGC, he also picked up his first win back in May at the Byron Nelson so we know he has the game to play four rounds at the top. He arrives after finishing 19th last year and with stats that suggest another good week is in store. His driving accuracy was poor at the Barclays (only 3 inches rough here so no problem) but he was still 6th for GIR and he is long off the tee, two stats that are a massive plus for this week. Jason is still young and has a lot to learn but that seems to mean nothing this year and at 50/1, he looks good value to me.

Jason Day – Each-Way – 50/1 (Coral)

Like last week, the final player on my shortlist is a player that looks to be considered a complete outsider but I feel may surprise a few people. DJ Trahan has enjoyed some good results this year and must come here with some confidence after a 21st place finish at The Barclays. DJ’s record here is solid without being spectacular and he has made the cut the last two years. However it is his current stats that interest me. GIR and driving distance are vitally important this week and DJ stands out in both, he is 14th for driving distance with an average drive of 298.7 yards and 5th in GIR with a percentage of 70.65%. It’s a surprise he hasn’t had a win this year as he sits 24th in birdie average, 25th in total driving and 10th for all round ranking. At 175/1 he looks well worth of an each way bet to me.

DJ Trahan – Each-Way – 175/1 (Bet365)
